Trump Warns China: Ship Weapons to Iran and You'll Face Serious Consequences

President Trump issued a direct warning to China after U.S. intelligence revealed Beijing is preparing to ship portable air defense systems to Iran during the fragile ceasefire.

The Intelligence

On April 11, CNN reported that U.S. intelligence indicates China is preparing to deliver MANPAD systems (man-portable air defense missiles, likely FN-6 or FN-16 models) to Iran within weeks. The weapons would be routed through third countries to obscure their origin.

Trump told reporters: "If China does this, China will have big problems." Days earlier, on April 8-9, he had already announced 50% tariffs on any country supplying weapons to Iran.

The Bigger Picture: China-Iran Military Ties

The MANPAD shipment is not an isolated incident. According to U.S. intelligence assessments and open-source reporting, China's support for Iran during the 2026 war has included:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment shipped by SMIC to Iran's military
  • BeiDou satellite navigation access provided by Chinese firms
  • Rocket fuel precursors: five sanctioned Iranian vessels have carried sodium perchlorate (solid rocket fuel component) from Chinese ports since the war began
  • Geospatial intelligence: satellite surveillance data and electronic warfare support
  • Supersonic anti-ship missiles: Iran has been exploring purchases

China's embassy categorically denied the allegations. But the pattern raises a critical question: China is simultaneously contributing to ceasefire mediation and allegedly arming one side of the conflict. With Trump's planned May visit to Beijing, the weapons issue has become an explosive diplomatic lever.
