Grok Now Translates Posts Automatically on X and Lets You Edit Photos With Text Commands

X (formerly Twitter) has launched two Grok-powered features: automatic post translation rolling out worldwide, and AI photo editing on iOS. The translation tool converts foreign-language posts by default. The photo editor lets users modify images through natural language commands like "turn this into a watercolor painting" or "remove the background."

The Controversy Behind Image Editing

Grok's image capabilities have been surrounded by controversy. Reuters tested the system and found Grok produced sexualized imagery in 45 of 55 controlled test prompts. In 31 of those 45, reporters explicitly said the subject was vulnerable. Competing systems from OpenAI, Google, and Meta refused identical prompts. The UK's Information Commissioner's Office and California's Attorney General demanded action.

What Is xAI?

xAI is Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, founded in 2023. It makes Grok, an AI chatbot deeply integrated with X. In early 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI. Grok competes with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, positioning itself as a less restricted alternative, though this philosophy has repeatedly led to safety controversies.
